GV II
Quay walls. C17. Vertically-set drystone killas rubble with
granite copings fastened with iron cramps; some granite ashlar
to C19 rebuilt section to southernmost point; 3 flights of
dressed granite steps. Tapered peninsular quay with rounded
corners; 2 original recessed flights of steps to the inland
side, the wall serpentine on plan beside the outer flight;
later, probably early/mid C19, flight of steps to the seaward
side leading down to a C20 concrete slipway.
This is one of the earliest quays in Falmouth and survives
virtually complete. This quay and the C17 quays in the town
enabled the rapid growth of Falmouth as a port.
