GV II

Two town houses with later shops. C18, remodelled early to mid C19. Stucco on rubble with quoin strips; slatehanging at rear facing harbour; steep asbestos slate front roof; parallel rear roof with scantle slate to No.48 (left) and at least one C17/C18 crested clay ridge tile; brick end stacks and rear lateral stack on right. Double-depth plan plus an irregular grouping of later extensions at rear. 3 storeys; 3:2-window range. Early to mid C19 12-pane sashes to 2nd floor, later horned sashes below. Quoin strips, scribed near centre pilaster, lintel string, shaped aprons under 2nd-floor sills and eaves cornice with modillions under deep soffit. Ground floor has round-arched ope (passage) doorway with Tuscan half-columns, adjoining this a mid to late C19 shop front with Ionic pilasters, 4 round-arched heads over 2 surviving lights and 2-tier moulded entablature with consoles to upper one. C20 shop front on the right. Rear of ope is rare c1800 3-light bowed window to 1st floor, also to rear many sashes with glazing bars. INTERIOR not inspected.
