Formerly known as: Handsworth Vicarage HANDSWORTH ROAD.
Vicarage, now parish centre, and adjoining stable range,
pigeoncote and boundary wall. Mid C17, refronted early C18,
remodelled early C19, with C19 and late C20 additions and
alterations. Coursed squared stone and brick, with internal
remains of timber framing, and ashlar dressings and hipped and
gabled slate roof, with six C19 coped stone ridge stacks.
Plinth, quoins, sillbands.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 6 window range arranged 1: 4: 1. Recessed
central block flanked by shallow pedimented wings, the left
one wider.
In the centre, four 12-pane sashes and below, C20 6-panel door
with overlight, flanked to right by a C19 French window.
Beyond, on either side, a 12-pane sash. All these openings
have stone surrounds. Flanking wings have a single 12-pane
sash on each floor, the lower left one larger, all on
sillbands.
Right return has five 12-pane sashes and below, 3 similar
windows with keystone lintels. To their right, a large late
C19 canted stone bay window with pierced coped parapet. To
right again, a stone boundary wall to the church yard, with
flat coping and 2 doorways to left.
Left return has a mid C20 single storey addition, forming a
link to the stable range. Rear has 2 coped gables.
Stable range, c1800, coursed squared stone with slate roof and
coped gable. 2 storeys; 6 window range. Small off-centre
through-eaves gable with a renewed round window, flanked by 2
small 6-pane windows to left and 3 to right, the right one
late C20. Below the dormer, a segment-arched carriage opening
with keystone and double board doors, flanked to left by a
large 6-pane casement, then a door with overlight. To right, a
single and a double casement. Rear has late C20 entrance to
left, and mainly late C20 fenestration.
INTERIOR: parish centre interior has entrance hall with
cantilever stone staircase with landings and wrought-iron
balusters, lit by a rooflight with moulded cornice. Moulded
6-panel doors, one of them curved.
Front ground floor room has fielded panelled dado and moulded
cornice and span beams. Eared and shouldered wooden fireplace
with basket grate. Central passage has an exposed bay post.
First floor rear room has exposed pole and rush partition.
Stable range interior has altered principal rafter roof, and
above the carriage entrance, a pigeoncote with restored brick
nest boxes.
The Parish Centre was previously listed on 28/06/73; the
adjoining stable range, pigeoncote and wall are new listings.
