GV II

Lace warehouse, now offices. 1883. By S & J Cargill of New Basford, builders, for WA Fowkes. Red brick with rock-faced stone ground floor, ashlar dressings and clerestory with slate roof. Plinth, string course, bracketed sill bands to the upper floors, elaborate moulded brick eaves. Windows are mainly original plain sashes with ashlar mullions and surrounds. 3 storeys plus basement and attics; 7 window range. Ground floor has segment-arched openings. Central tripartite window flanked by 2 single windows, then panelled double doors with fanlights. Basement has similar openings. Upper floors have a central tripartite window flanked by 3 single windows, all with round-arched openings and hood moulds. Second floor windows are smaller. Attics have a central coped gable with finial and tripartite window. Clerestory has continuous glazing with round-arched lights, and dentillated wooden eaves. INTERIOR has a wooden winder stair and truss roof.
