Parish church. 1887-91. By RC Sutton of Nottingham. Chancel 1897, by GF Bodley. South chapel c1911, probably to Bodley's design. Rockfaced stone, with ashlar dressings and plain tile roofs with coped gables. Gothic Revival style. PLAN: chancel, side chapels, vestry, nave with aisles, north and south porches. EXTERIOR: plinth and sill band. Mainly pointed arched windows with simple tracery. Chancel has to east an altar recess with clasping buttresses and a 3-light window set high. To south, an elliptical arched 2-light window. To north and south, a flat roofed chapel and vestry, 1897, each with parapet and 2 flat-headed windows. To north, a larger flat roofed vestry and lean-to organ chamber, 2:1 bays, has a blank east end with clasping buttresses and a traceried niche. East bay, defined by a buttress, has a 2-light window and a gabled bell turret. Western bays have 2 similar windows. Coped west gable, part of a planned south aisle, is wider and has a boarded opening. Nave, 4 bays, has 8 clerestory windows on each side. West end has two 2-light windows, and above, a traceried round window. Coped gable topped with a tall, gabled double bell turret. Aisles have buttresses and 6 windows, with 2 similar windows at the west ends. Gabled south porch has a moulded pointed arched doorway with double doors, and a round window in each side. North porch modified by attached corridor to church hall, mid C20. Outside, attached low boundary wall, Bulwell stone with chamfered ashlar coping, along the south and west sides of the church. At the south-west corner, a pair of square gate piers with chamfered ashlar caps and wrought-iron double gates. INTERIOR: nave and aisles brick with ashlar piers and dressings, chancel and chapels rendered. Chancel has moulded brick arch with paired shaft responds, and pointed arched wooden barrel vault. North side has an organ case by Bodley. East end has a pointed arch with shafts to the altar recess, flanked by pointed arched doors. Stained glass east window. South side has a double arcade, 2 bays, with pointed arches and octagonal columns, flanking a corridor. At the east end, a shouldered opening to the east chapel. East chapel has 2 stained glass windows and panelled wooden ceiling. South chapel has pointed barrel vault. East end has a pointed arched altar recess with C14 style triple niche and spire containing 3 figures. South side has traceried piscina and 3 stained glass windows, 1949, by Whitefriars. Nave has 4-bay arcades with moulded brick arches and hood moulds, and round ashlar piers. Paired clerestory windows on sill band. Arch braced roof with traceried gables and wall shafts. West end has stained glass, 1926. Aisles have lean-to roofs with wooden wall shafts. North aisle has stained glass windows c1934 and mid C20. To north, 2 doors and to east, a pointed arch to a small side chapel. South aisle has plain windows and south door. East end has a shouldered opening and an arched opening to the chapel. Fittings include wooden pulpit, screen and stalls, 1938, and C19 benches. C19 table font with granite shafts and C20 wooden cover.
