GV II
Corn warehouse. 1857. By TC Hine of Nottingham for the Great Northern Railway Co. Altered late C20. Red brick, with ashlar and white brick dressings and hipped sheet metal roof. Plinth and eaves band. 2 storeys; 16 bays. Windows are cast-iron glazing bar casements. North front has round-arched recessed bays with blank roundels above. Ground floor has 4 round-arched cart openings occupying 2 bays, with wooden double doors. On either side, small round-arched windows. In the other bays, larger round-arched windows. Fifth bay blank. South front has similar regular fenestration. Above 2 wooden sack hoists on cast-iron brackets, remaining first floor openings have large circular windows, mostly blocked. INTERIOR: ground floor has cast-iron columns. First floor has iron suspension rods from the wooden roof, supporting the floor without obstructing the space. Hine used a similar system in the Adams Building, Stoney Street (qv).
