Commercial premises, built as offices. 1892. By AE Lloyd
Oswell. Brick with ashlar dressings and plain tiled roof.
Flemish Revival style.
3 storeys and attic, 4 bays. Granite front to ground floor
with 2 outer doors with segmental moulded arches, flanked by
fluted shafts, and with arcaded overlights. Heavy cornice over
central window, with strapwork frieze and central pedimented
plaque, carried on moulded console brackets inscribed
"Shropshire Fire Office", and "Shropshire and North Wales".
Banded brick and stone to first floor, divided 1-2-1 by
pilasters. 2-light transomed windows in the outer bays, paired
segmentally-arched central windows in stressed architrave.
Moulded cornice over, and stone transomed windows above.
Frieze of foliate swags with egg-and-dart eaves cornice over.
Balustraded parapet each side of ornate central gable in 3
tiers, surmounted by high pedimented panel bearing the Salop
arms.
