Nos.51 AND 53
II
Small textiles warehouse or workshop, now warehouse. Probably
c.1860, slightly altered. Brown brick in Flemish bond (sides
rendered), slate roof. Square plan. Basement and 3 storeys, a
6-window facade, with sill-bands to all floors (that at 1st
floor with a simple brick corbel-table), and segmental-headed
windows except at 2nd floor; ground floor has simple doorway
to right with fixed 4-pane window over the lintel, a
square-headed loading doorway next to this with a loading
stage and wall-crane to the left, 2 basement windows and a
basement doorway at the left end and 3 windows over these;
upper floors have 6 windows and 3 round tie-plates between the
floors. Chimney at left gable. Interior: very simple
construction, with one cast-iron column in the centre of each
floor except the top which has a collar-truss; original
work-counter under top-floor windows. Unusual example of very
small purpose-built warehouse, little altered and still
serving the same function.
