GV II

Shops, warehouses and houses. 1899. By GS Doughty of Nottingham for J Wright & Son. Altered mid C20, restored late C20. Red brick with ashlar dressings and slate roofs with 4 coped stacks, 2 partly rebuilt. Renaissance Revival style. Sill bands to each floor, moulded eaves cornice. Windows are mainly original sashes, with glazing bar upper lights. 3 storeys plus attics; 19 window range, 8 bays. Near-symmetrical front, with 2 centre and end bays topped with swept coped gables and finials. Ground floor has mainly original openings with renewed shopfronts, divided by pilasters under a fascia cornice. No.72 has an original wooden shopfront with plate glass window flanked to left by a recessed glazed door with shaped glazing bars and overlight. First floor has in the centre a single window flanked by triple windows with segment-arched central lights, rusticated surrounds and keystones. Beyond, 2 similar segment-arched windows, and to right, an additional pair of similar windows. End bays have triple windows similar to the centre. Above again, similar fenestration, with flat-headed windows, mostly with double keystones. Above again, shaped gables with Diocletian windows with double keystones and voussoirs. 3 box dormers with 2-light windows and segmental pediments.
