II

Methodist New Connexion chapel and attached Littlewood Memorial Hall and boundary wall, now an office. Chapel dated 1828, hall dated 1896, with mid C19 additions and late C20 alterations. Brick with ashlar dressings and gabled and hipped slate roofs with single coped side wall stack. EXTERIOR: chapel, to right, 2 storeys; 5 x 5 windows. Plinth, first floor band and sillband, eaves cornice, coped parapet and coped gable with a shaped tablet inscribed "Methodist New Connexion Chapel 1828". Round headed windows with late C20 glazing. Front has 5 windows with moulded round heads and keystones and below, moulded central doorcase with pediment and C20 glazed doors with overlight. On either side, 2 windows with moulded heads and keystones. Right return has 5 windows on each floor with imposts, the ground floor ones blocked. Left return has 4 similar windows and below, attached hall. East end has 2 stained glass windows and two 3 storey irregular polygonal additions with a side wall stack. Memorial hall, 1 and 2 storeys; 3 x 8 windows. Canted west end has first-floor sillband and eaves cornice and 3 margin light sashes on each floor, with fanlights, moulded round heads, keystones and imposts. Left return has 3 similar sashes and below, 2 similar sashes flanked to left by a 6-panel door with overlight and to right by a larger doorway with inscribed granite lintel. To left, single storey hall, 5 bays, with plinth, cornice and coped parapet. To right, 4 round-headed margin light sashes, and to left a pedimented doorcase with pulvinated frieze inscribed "Hall", and blocked door. Above, a half-round window and a wrought-iron lamp bracket. INTERIOR not inspected. Outside the west ends, a brick boundary wall with curved ends, chamfered stone coping and C20 brick gate piers and gates. Approx 25m long.
