SHREWSBURY

SJ4912SW DOGPOLE 653-1/15/263 (West side) Nos.1, 2 AND 3

II

Includes: No.9 WYLE COP. Row of 3 shops and flats over. Largely mid C19, incorporating elements of an earlier building. Brick with stone dressings and plain tiled roof. 3 storeys, 9-window range (including 1 blind). Irregular fenestration comprising a series of paired 2-pane sash windows with stilted or 2-centred stone lintels, some with trefoiled lights in the tympanum. 2 inserted shop fronts to right, and a 2-centred archway in centre, with door recessed and up a flight of steps. Lower section a separate build, and probably somewhat earlier: although the fenestration is similar, there is a series of blocked windows which do not correspond closely with present floor levels, and the redder brickwork and sill band look C18. No.9 Wyle Cop forms the gable of this range: 4 storeys, 2-window range with early C20 shop front and paired 2-pane sashes over with truncated trefoiled heads to first floor. 3-light mullioned window in attic with high relieving arch over. Stone coped gable with kneelers and finial. Included for group value, as part of an outstanding group.
