House. 1856. By TC Hine of Nottingham. Altered late C19. White brick, with red and blue brick, stucco and ashlar dressings. Gabled and hipped slate roofs with 2 coped side wall stacks. Plinth, first floor band, rebated eaves. 2 storeys; 3 window range, plus corner tower. South-west front has a central pointed arched doorway with moulded surround and shafts, and half-glazed double doors. Above, a 3-light chamfered mullioned window. To left, a canted bay window, 2 storeys, with pyramidal roof. Stone lower floor has central French window and overlight, flanked by casements. Above, wooden bay window with sham balustrades and central 3-light casement flanked by 2-light casements. All these windows have leaded glazing. To right, a square brick bay window, 2 storeys, with hipped roof and a 3-light cross mullioned window. Above, a similar window minus the transom. Both windows have round-arched lights. Corner has octagonal 3 storey tower with hipped slate roof and a single round-headed window to each face on all floors. Right return has a single storey iron lean-to conservatory, mid C19. INTERIOR has a wooden open well stair with traceried balustrade. This building is part of TC Hine's earliest phase of the development of the Castle Park for the Duke of Newcastle.
