Early C19 house built on site of C16 predecessor, converted in
C20 to department store. Red brick, stuccoed and colourwashed
to facade. C20 black-glazed pantiles to roof. 3 storeys and
dormer attic; 2-window range. C20 plate-glass shop front under
a fascia board extending left and right over adjacent
premises. Upper 2 floors with a canted bay to the left fitted
with unhorned sashes with very thin 8/8 and 6/6 glazing bars.
One 6/6 sash to each upper floor to the right, that to the
first floor with horns. Moulded cornice below a Mansard roof.
One flat-topped dormer with a 2-light casement.
INTERIOR: opened out as a sales area late C20. Bridging beams
with acanthus consoles. Cellar retains patches of C16
brickwork. The canted bay partly rebuilt with rolled steel
joists in late C20. C19 rafter roof.
