TG5207SE KING STREET 839-1/16/60 (East side) 27/06/53 No.42 Kings Wine Bar including step railings

GV II

House. Mid C18, altered to become Gas Rental Office 1912, now a wine bar. Red brick under a machine-tile roof. 2 storeys and dormer attic; 4-window range. Early C20 plate-glass shop front, probably added 1912: cast-iron standards with bracket tops. To right is an C18 door of 6 fielded panels under a 6-vaned fanlight. Fielded reveals. Unfluted pilasters right and left supporting a plain frieze with a paterae in the centre. Modillions to the hood. Door is reached via steps, which have splayed iron railings of circular (south) and square section (north). North handrail of barleysugar section. Four 6/6 unhorned sashes to first floor, all under gauged skewback arches and all with sash hoods. Hipped roof continuous with No.41 (qv) and probably rebuilt in 1912. One flat-topped dormer with a 3/3 sash. Stacks on rear roof slope. Rear wing runs east along Row 115: 2 storeys, gabled, brick and flint. Rear block has a winder staircase. INTERIOR: ground floor converted to a wine bar late C20.
