Workshops. Mid C19, with late C19 and late C20 alterations.
Brick with ashlar dressings and slate roofs with 4 ridge and
single gable stacks.
EXTERIOR: sillbands to each floor, single coped gable,
keystones to ground floor and first floor openings. 3 storeys;
15 x 11 windows. L-plan.
Green Lane front has a round-headed glazing bar sash flanked
to left by 2 similar windows and to right by 4 more. To right,
entrance bay with a round-headed sash and a paired glazing bar
casement with a central shaft. Above, the same window
arrangement with 3-light wooden casements. Below, an
off-centre painted ashlar doorcase with round-headed opening
and cornice, flanked to left by 5 shuttered and screened
windows, and to right by 4 more. Entrance bay, to right, has
painted ashlar surround with pilasters and bracketed cornice,
the frieze inscribed "Wharncliffe Works". Segment arched
carriage opening flanked to left by a round-arched door with
overlight. To right, gable of adjoining block, with 2 large
glazing bar casements and above, a Venetian window with wooden
cross casements and brick flat arches. Below, 2 large 3-light
casements and below them, 2 cellar openings. Right return, to
Cornish Street, has glazing bar windows on each floor. Ground
floor has shuttered windows, and a doorway in bay 4.
