Warehouse, now shops, offices etc. c.1870, by Alfred Waterhouse; altered. Sandstone ashlar and red brick with sandstone dressings, slate roof. Rectangular plan [with integral loading bay at rear]. Free Elizabethan style. Five storeys and attic, over basement, a symmetrical 2:6:2 window range, the ends under steeply-pitched gables and breaking forwards slightly; the basement and ground floor of ashlar, the upper floors with quoined corners and surrounds, sill-bands to all floors, bracketed cornice, gable copings with kneelers and a parapet between them. The ground floor has a round-headed central doorway moulded in 3 orders, with a pilastered and pitched surround, and coupled round-headed windows with linked hoodmoulds; the 1st and 2nd floors have segmental-headed windows, the upper shouldered, the 3rd and 4th floors have square-headed windows (the upper also shouldered), the gables have coupled segmental-headed windows, and all these windows are sashed without glazing bars. The centre has 3 flat-roofed 3-light dormers above the parapet. The 5-bay side walls are similar.
