Cottage. c.1905. By Sir Reginald Blomfield for Lord Brassey. MATERIALS. Coursed Edith Weston stone with stone dressings and Collyweston slate roof with coped gables and finials and moulded stone stacks. Vernacular Revival style with stone mullioned windows (mostly with lead casements) and hoodmoulds. PLAN. Single depth 4-unit plan with staircase to centre left. Single storey and attic. 2-storey porch facing with basket-arched entrance leading to porch with settle either side and part-glazed door. 2 2-light windows to sides of porch. 3-light window over. Rest of front of cottage has 3-light window to left and 2 2-light windows to right. A 5-light window on each floor on both gable ends. 3- and 4-light wood casements to rear under wood lintels with a twin-gabled dormer and a single-storey wing. INTERIOR. Stick baluster staircase. 2-panel doors. Cast-iron fireplaces in bedrooms.
This Gardener's Cottage forms a significant group with the Walled Gardens (qv), and the other items surrounding the house at Apethorpe.
The gardens at Apethorpe are included in the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens at Grade II.
