2 shops with accommodation over, divided by Row 51. Mid C19
building on the site of C15 predecessors, considerable remains
of which survive in cellar of No.34. Red brick. Slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; 2-window range. One late C20 ground-floor
shop front right (No.34) and a late C20 bank facade to left
(No.35). First floor with 2 bow windows each with three 2/2
unhorned sashes separated by cast-iron columns with modified
Corinthian capitals and acanthus base decoration. The bows
have a dentil cornice and flat roofs. Second floor lit through
2 triple round-headed lancets, the centre ones taller and
wider than the flanking ones. They have sashes without glazing
bars, between which are marble columns terminating in modified
Corinthian capitals. Coved timber eaves cornice. Gabled roof
with a rebuilt central ridge stack. Rear wing to No.34 extends
west along Row 51: there are two C19 stained glass windows
boarded on interior.
INTERIOR of No.34: the cellar has a complete C15
double-chamfered depressed arch in brick with a plain hood
mould. Further east is the remains of a second similar arch.
Running west are tarred retaining walls, probably C16, to the
north and south sides. Little else of interest in interior.
INTERIOR of No.35: has no visible items of interest. Cellar
filled-in late C20.
Attached to rear of No.34 is a 3-storey warehouse block which
is not included.
