Dated 1830 on rainwater-head. Empty and for sale when surveyed (now flats). Scored stucco,
Three storeys. Boarded eaves with ornamented iron brackets with gargoyles.
Small-paned sash windows. Clustered diagonal chimneys, and castellated
roofline. Gothic porch of three open pointed arches, with buttresses and castellated
gable. Garden front has an elaborate iron verandah between deep 3-sided
bay windows of three storeys. Gothic fall pipes like octagonal buttresses.
Rear has a Tudor arch with castellated top, leading to kitchens, stables
etc. INTERIOR is Greek Revival, with Spanish mahogany door and window
architraves, painted wooden Greek columns, cornices, iron balustraded staircase
with mahogany handrail, oval stained glass lantern on columns; upstairs
is a white marble fireplace with charioteers. Staircase tower has a long
round-headed window. Good example of the mixed Greek and Gothic styles
of that date.
Croft Hotel. Croft Lodge, Nos 1 to 5 (consec) (Croft Courtyard), Cobbled
courtyard with mounting block and pump, Gatehouse, Howsley Cottage, Wayside
and Rock Cottage form a group.
