College Lodge
II
Lodge, previously `Fairfield Lodge'. c.1840. Mass wall construction, painted & rendered. Gabled slate roof. Stacks with rendered shafts with cornices and polygonal chimneypots. Tudor style.
Plan: Set at right angles to the road. 3-rooms wide, single depth. Rooms heated by axial and left end chimney stacks. Service block to rear right with hipped roof. Exterior: Single-storey. Asymmetrical, 3-window front. Coped gables with kneelers to roof and to gabled porch. Porch has segmental-headed outer doorway with square-headed hoodmould and tall stone finial above shield in gable, inscribed `Fairfield Lodge'. 4-panel door with rectangular overlight and vertical glazing bars. 2 windows to left and one to right with square-headed hoodmoulds, glazed with 12-pane sashes. Right return has large finial at apex of gable with coping. Bay contains 3-light high-transomed mullioned window with plain proud architrave and moulded cornice below parapet which is decorated with a blind frieze of quatrefoils; fleur-de-lis embellishment above the bay. INTERIOR: Not inspected. A good and complete example in the Tudor Revival style.
