House. C17; remodelled and extended circa late C18, extended C19 and altered C20. Plastered cob and painted brick. Pantile roof with half-hipped and gabled ends with stone coping. Brick end and axial stacks. PLAN : the original house was of 3-room plan, parlour on left [W] and kitchen on right [E] , heated from gable-end stacks, and with a central unheated room [now the entrance hall]. In about the C18 a fourth room was added on the right, with a large fireplace backing onto the kitchen fireplace and a small rear wing was built behind the kitchen. In the C19 outshuts were built at the back, the right [E] outshut was heightened to 2 storeys in the C20.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and 1 storey and attic on right. Asymmetrical 3:1 window south front. All C20 casements. Doorway central to 3-bay range on left with C20 porch. Raking dormer on right at eaves level. Rear [N]: roof carried down as catslide over outshut, small gable-ended wing to left of centre with outshut on its right side; outshut on left heightened with flat roof; C20 casements. INTERIOR: much late C18/ early C19joinery remains. Including fielded panel doors and china cupboard in parlour with shaped shelves. The parlour fireplace has curved back and rough timber lintel and winder stairs to right. The smaller centre left room has chamfered cross-beams with run-out stops. Centre right-hand room [former kitchen] has deeply chamfered cross-beam with step stops and fireplace lintel partly removed. Larger right-hand room has chamfered cross-beam with run-out stops and large brick fireplace with chamfered timber lintel, oven and narrow opening at side. Left [W] chamber has early C19 grate, and cupboard to side with boarded doors with strap hinges. Three trusses over original west range with mortice and tenoned collars and trenched purlins. Two trusses over right [E] addition with lapped collars at higher level.
