WEYMOUTH
SY6684 CHURCH STREET, Upwey 873-1/6/543 (West side) 14/06/74 Boundary wall from Mill House to opposite No.82 (No.82 not included) (Formerly Listed as: CHURCH STREET, Upwey (West side) Entrance Gates and Wall along Church Street up to the Mill of Upwey House)
GV II
Boundary wall enclosing the Wey stream and immediately adjacent to Church Street on the West side. Rubble. Probably early and mid C19, but possibly incorporating earlier work. The wall begins at a straight joint opposite No.82 (not included), and continues to the N until a doorway in walling to Mill House (qv). Begins at approx 2m height, dropping to approx 1.8m opposite No.90 (not included) for length of approx 23m, here rising again to approx 2m. Beyond this point the wall rises to approx 2.75m, with 2 distinct building phases; half height in rubble and half in coursed thin-bedded stone. This wall plays an important part visually in establishing the street here, opposite sporadic groups or individual cottages; it also forms a continuum with the enclosure to Mill House at the N, and the entrance gates to Upwey House (qv) to the S.
