House, now three shops with accommodation above. Mid C18, early C19, C20. Red brick. Hipped pantile roof with decorative eaves, two ridge stacks and single projecting stack to rear. Three storey, nine bay south front with first and second floor bands, and the three central bays projecting slightly with dentillated pediment above. C20 marble shop front of three bays to right. Early C19 shop front to left with central doorway with three-quarter glazed door. Flanking shop windows to the right of two-lights, to the left of plate glass, with flanking pilasters, continuous bracketed entablature above with projecting cornice. Blocked window to left with segmental head. Plain sash beyond, with segmental head. Early C19 shop front to left with canted shop window to right of three-lights in narrow angled light to right. Fielded panelling below, ornate bracketed entablature above. Doorway on south-west corner with blind overlight and deepset glazed door. Nine windows above with three glazing bar sashes to right, four plain sashes to left with two glazing bar sashes beyond. Nine small glazing bar sashes above. All the windows with segmental heads. West front of three storeys and four bays with first and second floor bands.

Early C19 canted shop window to right with three-lights flanked by single lights, fielded panelling below and bracketed entablature above. Another early C19 shop front to left with doorway to right with flanking pilasters, overlight and panelled door. Canted shop window to left with flanking pilasters, fielded panelling below and bracketed entablature above. Two glazing bar sashes above alternate with two blind panels with two smaller blind panels above, flanked by single smaller outer glazing bar sashes. All the windows and blind panels with segmental heads.

This house was once the town house of Sir Joseph Banks, botanist and explorer (1743-1820).
