Studio at Chapel House
GV
II
Music studio. c. 1971. Built for Benjamin Britten. Painted brick with a pantile roof and plain timber barge-boards. Single storey.
North-east front has single doorway to right with painted door. North-west gable wall blind. South-east gable wall has single long narrow window placed high up in the wall. South-west front has large casement window facing out over the adjoining Suffolk fields.
This studio was built for Benjamin Britten when he moved here to Chapel House in 1971. It was designed and built specifically as a quiet place where Britten could compose undisturbed, far away from the increasing world wide fame which had begun to impinge on his life at Aldeburgh. Britten lived at Chapel House with his partner Peter Pears.
