The Suffolk Punch Public House
II
Public house. 1936-37. By Cautley and Barefoot of Ipswich. Red brick with stone dressings and plain-tile roof Ornamental ridge stacks with elaborate linked flues. Jacobethan style. Corner site. 2 storeys; 4-window range to Norwich road including canted corner. 1- to 4-light stone mullion windows with leaded lights and hood moulds. Taller windows with transoms to ground floor. Canted bay on corner. Elements of the front project and there are stone-coped gables with finials. Moulded round-arched doorway with panelled double doors. Front to Cromer Road similar but longer. In the centre on the roof ridge an elaborate clock tower, the lower section with blind arcading, then the clockfaces and a tall pyramidal roof INTERIOR. The bar areas have been opened out but they retain original woodwork and panelling. Staircase with turned balusters and 1st floor function room with fireplace.
