2/209 Farmbuildings adjoining to north- west of Woolsgrove Farmhouse

GV II

3 adjoining ranges of farmbuildings to rear of Woolsgrove Farmhouse. C17 and early-mid C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stack; slate and corrugated iron roof. Ranges facing into farm courtyard. Slate-roofed early-mid C19 south-west range has barness room at left end, carriageway adjoining, central coal store and 3-bay open-fronted linhay to right. Timber curving braces make segmental arch over carriageway and the linhay posts are similarly braced to the wallplates and the hayloft openings filled in with slats. C17 north-west range alongside road comprises bakehouse, stores and large carriageway. It projects beyond south-west range with end stack and reset late C16-early C17 oak moulded window frame. Courtyard front has large carriageway with unglazed 2-light window above at right end. Bakehouse to left has central unglazed window on each floor and flanking ground floor doors, the right door to stairs. Carriageway contains large (possibly late C17-early C18) ledged and braced door to road. Its front side has 3 strap hinges, 2 of which have fleur de lys terminals and remains of moulded cover strips. North-east range contains much-altered stables. Bakehouse includes massive granite fireplace with oak lintel and fireplace. Cross beams have been replaced with C20 steel joists. Upper floor has plastered walls and ceiling suggesting an original domestic function, possibly as servants quarters. A reset C17 flat-arched door through cob crosswall to room over carriageway. Bakehouse has 6-bay roof of A-frames with pegged lap-jointed collars and other ranges have early- mid C19 trusses.
