SATTERLEIGH AND WARKLEIGH
Mole Cottage

GV
II

Cottage. Probably mid C19 origins, but entirely remodelled and extended circa 1920.
Painted rendered right-hand side of stone rubble and cob, left side brick. Thatch
roof, carried down over leanto porch at left end, with brick stack to rear towards
left end and brick stack at right end.
Overall plan consists of 2 rooms to left and single room to right of former entrance
hall containing staircase, the front doorway now blocked. Additional entrance porch
and staircase at left end. C20 flat-roofed extension to rear. The original core
appears to have consisted of the right-hand room only, the whole being remodelled
and extended in picturesque style circa 1920.
2 storeys. 6-window range in all. Asymmetrical. All fenestration late C20 with
square leaded panes, but in same style as 1920s' fenestration. 2 right-hand windows
have large gabled dormer, half dormer towards left-hand end 3-light window. Rustic
timber porch with blocked doorway to left side of right-hand range which breaks
forward slightly. Leanto rustic verandah and entrance porch at left end with full
eyebrow dormer above.
Mole Cottage forms an integral roadside group with its stable and garage and store-
shed. (q.v.).
