FORRABURY AND FORE STREET (west side), Boscastle SW 0990 MINSTER 7/42 Tinker's Cottage 17.12.62 GV II
House. Circa late C16 or early C17. Rendered and painted slate-stone rubble. Rag slate roof, partly covered with bitumen, with gable ends. Projecting stone rubble front lateral stack on left and stone rubble stack on right hand gable end. Rear wing to left of painted and rendered stone rubble with rag slate roof and stone rubble gable end stack. 2 room and cross passage plan; the left hand hall kitchen heated by a front lateral stack and the right hand possibly parlour by a gable end stack. Service wing probably added to rear of hall kitchen in circa early C17; one room plan heated by end stack. 2 storeys, asymmetrical two window front with ground rising steeply to right. Circa C20 2-light casement with glazing bars to left and late C18 2-light casements to right. Stone rubble open fronted porch with lean-to roof and C18 2-panel inner entrance door. Above C20 2-light casement to left and C19 2-light casement to right, both in gabled half dormers. Interior; partly remodelled in C19. The central cross passage is flanked by two fairly thick cross walls which continue up to the first floor. The circa C18 ceiling beams in the left hand hall have bowtell mouldings. Fireplaces remodelled in C20 and circa C19 stair to rear of central passage. Several C18 2-panel doors on first floor. A full inspection of the 7-bay roof structure was not accessible; however although the feet of the principals have been largely boxed in at least one foot appears to be curved; the purlins appear to be trenched. In the rear service wing, the foot of one of the principals is visible and appears to have a pronounced curve. Particularly unaltered picturesque house in centre of Boscastle village.
