- II
Cottage. Late C17 or early C18 altered in C20. Flint faced with brick quoins and window dressings (now painted). End brick chimneystack to right with flat slab on top. Thatched roof hipped to left swept over porch to left and forming eyebrow dormer to right. 1 storey and attic , 1 window. Attic window is C20. 3-light casement with diamond mullions. Ground floor has similar window with hoodmoulding. C20 painted brick porch to left with plank door and side lights. 3 triangular buttresses. Right side elevation has 2 small windows each side of the fireplace with wooden surrounds and leaded lights and 1 brick and flint buttress. Left side elevation has 4 similar windows and a deep plinth. Rear elevation has flat roofed extension to ground floor in matching materials and one C20 3-light dormer. Interior not inspected but exposed ceiling beams and framing reported. Thought to have had connections with smuggling, a kettle reputed to have been hoisted on the chimney when the coast was clear, hence the name.
