Hospital. 1897 by Frank T. Verity, built as the French Club. Painted terracotta. Unusual Franco-Flemish Renaissance appropriate to original use. storeys plus two attic storeys in gable. Five windows wide. Rusticated ground floor has central columned portal and side entrances with half columns and obelisk finials, volute and strapwork crestings. Central three storey mullioned-transomed casement oriel with strapwork panelled aprons, flanking mullioned windows paired on third floor. Stepped attic lights in ornate full width gable of six steps with side scrolls and crowning obelisk finial. Acquired and adapted by St. John's Hospital 1934-35. Conspicuous elevation from Leicester Square closing Leicester Street vista.
