TQ 2880 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER UPPER GROSVENOR 68/66 STREET, W1 No. 18 G.V. II Terraced town house. c.1732 by Lawrence Neale, carpenter, with alterations and probably heightening by Charles Elliot in 1792-93. Stucco faced, slate roof. 3 storeys and basement with attic storey and dormered mansard. 4 windows wide, the front flanked by rusticated quoins. Entrance in 2nd bay from left with Doric columned portico-porch of c.1793, 6 panel door with segmental fanlight. Recessed sashes under segmental arches, the attic storey with square headed windows in shallow architraves. Cornice over 2nd floor, parapet with coping. Delicate cast iron c.1793 balcony to 1st floor. Wrought iron area railings. Rear elevation has bow added by Elliot. The interior retains of the early C.18 the panelling, modillion cornice and probably original chimneypiece of the front ground floor room,other extensive alterations by Elliot of c.1792-93,mouldings etc, and in particular the double apsed staircase, up to the 2nd floor with stone cantilevered steps and delicately patterned iron balustrade (c.f. same pattern at 66 Grosvenor Street); otherwise principally Edwardian neo-Georgian features.
