TQ 3080 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER TRAFALGAR SQUARE, WC2 83/9 5.2.70 Statue of George IV G.V. II Equestrian statue. 1829-43 by Sir Francis Chantrey and T Earle, cast for the Marble Arch in its original setting as the entrance to Buckingham Palace, erected finally in Trafalgar Square in 1843. Bronze on granite pedestal. Be-cloaked portrait in contemporary dress but with Roman Emperor convention. riding stirrup-less. (The corresponding north-western pedestal in the square remains statue-less.) Survey of London; Vol XX.
