GV II
House, now office. Dated 1797 on hopper. Flemish bond brick with stucco dressings, brick gable stacks and tiled roof. Double-depth plan. 3 storeys and attic; 3-window range. Plat bands to each floor, a modillion cornice and parapet; steps up to a good right-hand doorcase has attached Doric columns with entablature blocks with triglyphs, open modillion pediment, round-arched doorway and radial metal fanlight, transom with enriched tablet and 6-panel door. Mid C20 bowed shop front, in early C19 style; gauged brick flat arches over first-floor 6/6-pane sashes and 2/2-pane sashes. Rear has first-floor cill band and cornice, and a tablet inscribed SV/2 MAY/1797. INTERIOR connected internally with No.20 (qv), altered mid C20, has panelled shutters and reveals and mid C20 fireplaces. Formerly contained a central lateral dogleg stair with a winder stair to the attic, and original first-floor fireplaces. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached front iron railings with urn finials to the steps. (RCHME: County of Dorset (South East): London: 1970-: 222, 230).
