GV II
Screen walls and gates. Mid C19 (pre-1851) constructed as part of the comprehensive remodelling of The Manor House (qv), and the laying out of its garden and forecourt. Screen walls and piers brick, stuccoed, with stone copings and pier caps, and timber gates. 'S' curve back from street frontage of screen walls, which also reduce in height in an 'S' curve, from their junctions, left, and right, with Nos 8 and 9 and either side. Central carriage gateway, with pedestrian gateway at right, with substantial piers, and stone caps with cyma recta mouldings. Late C19 wrought-iron scrollwork lamp mounting on right hand pier of pedestrian gateway. Granite spur stones to protect piers of carriage entrance. Paired 6 recessed panel wooden gates to vehicle entry with single 6 recessed panel gate to pedestrian entry, all with ramped, moulded cappings. Included for group value. (Ware 25" to 1 Mile.
