HIGH HALDEN 1. 5272 TQ 93 NW Bachelors Farm SP 778 II

2. House, C17 origin; C18 and C19 alterations; late C20 extension. Timber framed. Mainly Flemish bond brick ground floor; tile-hung above. Plain tile roof. Central chimney; later parallel rear wing, perhaps originally an outshut; both wings retain separate roof trusses, but now have one later roof spanning the two. Front elevation with five panes wide sash window each side of modern front door with cover strips and overlight. On first floor, five two-light windows with small panes. On second floor, two hipped dormers with late C20 windows. Interior: jowl posts retained to centre front first floor bay; posts with carpenters' marks and pegholes retained at rail or brace level along whole of rear elevation of original wing at first floor and partly at ground floor. Chamfered beams, partly with run-out stops, to first and ground floors; wall-plate. Clasped purlin collar truss roof with newer roof riding above it and rear wing. Stairs to second floor. Old ledged doors to second floor and by entrance to second floor stairs; four panel doors on first and ground floors; three C19 fireplace surrounds on first floor.
