Details

ELLINGHAM CHATHILL NU 12 NE 11/150 Chathill Station, and down platform 2.11.73 GV II Station c.1847 by Benjamin Green for the Newcastle and Berwick Railway. Ashlar with Welsh slate roof. Tudor style. Irregular plan. Platform facade: 1½ and 2 storeys with single-storey extensions at each end. Raised alternating quoins and surrounds. In the centre a projecting 2-storey, cross-gabled bay with canted 2-storey mullioned bay window. To left 1 1/2-storey section with panelled door and 2-light window covered by lean-to roof on arcade of 5 square posts with serrated brackets; 2-light gabled half-dormer above. To right two 8-pane sashes in raised surrounds with floating cornices. Similar half dormer above. Steeply-pointed gabled roof with kneelers and ridged coping; 5 ball finials and tall corniced ridge stacks of one and 2 conjoined shafts; right end stack rebuilt in brick. Rear facade. L-plan with projecting wing to left. Similar detail. Paved platform with retaining wall. One cast-iron lamp post remains.
