Details

LOWER-PENN C.P. SPRINGHILL LANE (west side) SO 89 NE 2/111 Malthouse Cottage and attached Maltings (Formerly listed under 12/6/87 Dirty Foot Lane)

II Cottage. C17, remodelled late C19. Timber framed, partly replaced with brick, the front roughcast and painted white; plain tile roof; brick integral end stack and ridge stack. One storey and attic; 3 windows, casements, gabled attic dormers, breaking through eaves. C20 gabled porch to left of centre with gabled door. Attached to left is a late C18/C19 maltings with brick kiln to front with pyramidal tiled roof and rectangular cowl and storey projecting to left at rear. Irregular openings with segmental heads on both floors. The interior is thought to survive with kiln and quarry tiled floor to maltings. Interior: Exposed timber framing of small square panels.
