GV II*
House. Late C16 with rear aisle raised to 2 storeys mid C19. Large dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Hall-and-cross wings which project to south only. 3-room front through-passage plan. West wing projects furthest and has wide gable embracing aisle or outshut to west of single storey. Both wings have coped gables with kneelers. All are double chamfered mullioned windows with deep steeply pitched outer chamfer and ovolo moulded inner chamfer and mullions, hoodmoulds with straight returns. West wing has small chamfered light to aisle, 6-light window with 5-light window over to 1st floor. Right hand return wall has 3-light window with same over to 1st floor. Right hand return wall has 3-light window with same over to 1st floor. Hall, range at right angles, has 14-light and 6-light (fire-window) mullioned and transomed windows with windows of 2 lights and 4 lights over to 1st floor. East wing breaks forward slightly and has doorway with Tudor arched lintel and cavetto moulded surround with carved spandrels; two 2-light windows with one of 3 lights to 1st floor all with cavetto moulded mullions. Left hand return wall is in dressed rubble with 2 flat faced mullioned windows of 2 lights and doorway with wooden surround. Quoins. Rear wings are gabled with copings, kneelers and finials. East wing has two 2-light windows with 3-light window over to 1st floor and identical doorway to through passage. Aisle has 3-light window with dressed rubble above 1st 6 courses with 2-light window to 1st floor. West wing has 5-light window and 2-light window with 4 light window over to 1st floor and a small chamfered light at junction of aisle. Right hand return wall has 3- light window and doorway with monolithic jambs protected by open lean-to stone and glass storm porch c.1983.
Interior: Housebody preserves large bressumer carrying 2 spine beams. Parlour has fireplace with moulded surround similar to through passage door. King post truss with 'V' struts. A house of fine quality stone masonry with the rare feature of ovolo mullions and the through passage in the east wing: this having cavetto moulded mullions may pre-date the hall range and west wing, which itself has the unusual feature of an aisle on its lateral wall.
