Details
TQ 2780 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER HYDE PARK PLACE, 66/12 W2 (BAYSWATER ROAD), W2 10.4.75 No. 25 G.V. II End of terrace house. c. 1837-40 probably by George Gutch. Stucco, slate roof. 4 storeys, basement and dormered mansard. 3 windows wide, left hand entrance with porch of fluted Greek Doric columns projecting to pavement. Channelled ground floor with recessed plate glass sashes. Upper floors have similar sash windows, those on 1st floor with architraves. Modillion and dentil cornice over 2nd floor, attic cornice and blocking course. Cast iron geometric patterned 1st floor balcony. Cast iron spear head area railings. stucco chimney stacks. This front forms a continuation of the return of No. 2 Hyde Park Street. Part of the Bishop of London's development of Tyburnia, planned by S P Cockerell in 1827, but laid out to modified plan by Cockerell's successor, G Gutch 'The History of Tyburnia', G Toplis; Country Life, 15, 22 Nov 1973.
