MANCHESTER SQUARE Drinking Fountain in the forecourt of Hertford House (The Wallace Collection)

GV II* Drinking fountain. c1878, designed by Charles Lebourg. Cast iron. Octagonal plinth with enriched scrolled consoles alternating with moulded dolphins on facets surmounted by 4 caryatids carrying an octagonal entablature with canopy having simulated fish-scale details and other enrichment. A fine example of a type presented to the City of Paris by Sir Richmond Wallis, Anglo-Parisian philanthropist and founder of the Wallace Collection, who at his own cost erected many fountains similar to those in London throughout Paris.
