Detached house. Late C17, substantially rebuilt 1845. Ashlar front, coursed and random rubble limestone to sides and rear; ashlar chimneys; Welsh slate roof. Single depth, 2-room plan, three-storey, with single-storey outshut to rear. Two-storey addition to west end. South front: 3-window facade with central break-forward; 16-pane sashes to ground and middle floors, 12-pane to attic, one altered with top hung light. Central doorway with pilasters and entablature; dated 'P. H. 1845' over door. Diagonal lattice glazing bars to fanlight above readed transom; 4-panel part glazed door. Plain cill band to middle floor. Parapet gabled ends, each with chimney having plain cap. Scat- tered small casements to east end, this with C17 masonry up to first floor level. C19 lean-to to west end, increased in height in C20. Rear outshut was originally open shelter, now incorporated into house. Original mullioned window opening; are still visible internally, in the rear wall. One retains its leaded casements. Central staircase and other fittings date from 1845. This house is of considerable social interest, illustrating an adaption of the 'standard' Stroud/Painswick gabled cottage, to a small Victorian villa.
