UPPER BROOK STREET TQ 2880 NW 68/108 No 49 and 50 and attached railings II GV Pair of terraced town houses, designed to appear as one house, now offices. 1907-8, by Maurice Hulbert of Matthews, Rogers and Co, for the Grosvenor Estate. Portland stone ashlar, channelled at ground floor level. Slated mansard roof with dormers, central ones with pediments. Four storeys, attics and basement. Six, window range. Central round-arched entrances with recessed part-glazed doors. Each ground floor with a round-arched sash in a shallow round-arched niche with keystone flanked by square-headed sashes. with keystones. Bracketted stone balcony at first floor level with pierced and enriched' balustrade. Ionic pilasters, partly fluted, rise from first to second floor level'supporting entablature with cartouches' in the frieze and projecting cornice with modillion blocks above cartouches at third floor level; channelled pilaster strips at angles terminating with cartouches. Enriched architraved sashes; first floor central 'window to each house with pediment, others with cornices; second floor with enriched keystones and enriched aprons except for central aprons which are shaped and plain. Pilaster strips to third floor wibh recessed, round-arched panels. Projecting cornice surmounted by stone balustrade. -Attached elaborate cast iron railings to areas. Interiors not inspected butbelieved to retain panelled and decorated rooms. Included for group value.
