Details
1. 5118 SISTON ABSON ROAD Blue Lodge, attached building to west and kitchen garden walls extending from south side of Lodge (approx 50 yds long to south, 50 yds long to east and 20 yds long to north) ST 67 SE 4/214 II 2. The present building dates from the early C19 and later, incorporating some older fabric. Front 2 storeys, west wing rendered. Pantile roofs. Three-three-three windows, the centre unit a taller mid C19 remodelling. Left hand unit has attic, 2 dormers, plain band over first floor and modern casement windows; central wrought iron porch with tented hood, pier to left with moulded capping. The right hand part (east) has 2+1 windows, sashes, and open pediment doorway to left with traceried fanlight. Porch extension built on to right with a re-used niche. Three C18 cross mullion (wood) casements to rear. Centre part projects to rear. To west is an incomplete coach house incorporating 2 Tudor archways said to come from Bristol Castle and 3 perpendicular style windows. The archways appear to be C17, ashlar with traceried spandrels, moulded jambs and hood-moulds, south arch with C19 arms and motto over and 2-light mullion window. North arch approached by low quadrant walls with octagonal piers. Walled garden to south with 3 tall rubble walls, about 14 ft high with coping and low closing wall to south. This building is said to be on the site of a Saxon hunting lodge.
