STANHOPE BISHOPLEY NZ 03 NW Frosterley 21/152 High Bishopley Farmhouse and barn adjoining GV II
Farmhouse and barn with byre. Circa 1700 with circa 1800 alterations. Coursed sandstone rubble with quoins; incised stucco on house; ashlar dressings; irregular plinth; stone-flagged roofs. House 2½ storeys, barn 2 storeys; 3 and 2 bays. House has irregular fenestration; boarded door and 3-pane overlight at left of second bay; late C19 sashes in outer bays and similar smaller sash above and to right of door; 2 small 2-light windows at eaves; blocked 2-light stone-mullioned window revealed to right of door. Low-pitched roof has end chimneys with thin strings. Right return gable has through-stones below chimney. Lower barn at right has partly-glazed boarded door, in plain stone surround, at left of second bay; similar surround to partly-glazed loft opening above and to right of door; inserted window at,ground floor left under flat stone lintel; vent slits above. Rear elevation has wide one-storey pent outshuts at either end of house; central section of rear wall has blocked single-chamfered stone windows on ground and first floors. Barn has 2 ground-floor byre entrances with boarded doors in plain stone surrounds; side steps to similar loft door; vent slits. Interior not inspected.
