BENTS LANE
Slaithwaite Hall
No 1

(Formerly listed as No 12, BENTS LANE, Slaithwaite Hall)

GV
II
Possibly early C16 origin. North side: early-mid C18. South side: C19. Former dwelling, cruck framed. Coursed rubble. Pitched stone slate roof. One storey.

South east elevation: two doorways (possibly later); one three-light stone mullioned window; one two-light stone mullioned window (pronounced sill). North west elevation: two two-light stone mullioned windows (recessed and double chamfer).

Interior: single cruck truss. Blades touch at apex and cradle ridge. Below apex is halved collar and below that is lower collar. Some original purlins indicate existence of former further cruck trusses. Halvings for former wind braces and tie spurs indicate that walls were probably originally timber framed. Probably the cruck spanned the open hall of an early house.

(Report by Colum Giles for RCHM 1981.)
