House, formerly manor house. Early C19 house incorporating part of late C17 build at rear. C19 house stuccoed stone; late C17 build cob. Slate roof, brick gable end chimneys. Double depth plan with entrance into corridor leading to stairs to rear. 2 rooms wide, front rooms early C19, rear right room part of C17 build. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 5-window front with central porch of Roman Doric columns and responds with entablature, frieze decorated with triglyphs. Ground floor windows timber sashes 2 panes above 4. 5 similar first floor windows. 6-panel front door with fielded panels. Ground floor corridor paved with white marble. Ground floor room front left has original marble fireplace and panelled shutters, cornice and panelling to walls late C20. Ground floor room right has original marble fireplace, round-headed recess in rear wall, ornamental plaster border to ceiling, panelled shutters. 6-panel doors to ground floor rooms. Early C19 stair with turned balusters and ramped moulded handrail. Ground floor room rear right has 3 axial beams with ovolo mouldings and runout stops, some cross beams renewed. Large fireplace with replaced fireplace beam and cloam oven. First floor rooms have wide 2-panel doors. Wall adjoining front left has 4 blocked round-headed arches. Cart entrance adjoining right gable end has chamber above and may have been C17 entrance to inner courtyard. Late C19/early C20 greenhouse adjoining right gable end with lean-to roof against cart entrance. Eastway Manor was annexed by the Duchy of Cornwall after the dissolution of Launceston Priory, Rev. F.C.Hamlyn, A History of Morwenstowe after the Restoration (1930).
