Details

ENVILLE C.P. LUTLEY LANE (east side) SO 88 NW 8/44 Lutley Farmhouse II Farmhouse. Late C15/early C16 core, with alterations and rebuilding of the C17, C18, C19 and C20. Timber framed with painted brick infill, partly re- built in brick; plain tile roofs; brick ridge stack, lateral external stack and external gable end stack. H-plan; former single-bay open hall aligned east-west facing north with entrance passage at the west end and flanking cross-wings aligned north-south. Central hall range of one storey and attic recessed between 2-storey gabled wings. Hall range. C18 front wall of painted brick; central C20 casement in C18 opening with segmental head,central mid-C20 flat roofed dormer. C20 lean-to porch to the right with glazed door. Left hand wing. Late C17. 3 square panels to eaves, long straight tension braces, heavily jowelled corner posts and queen strut roof truss; roof level raised in C19. Right hand wing. C17. Ground floor rebuilt in brick, first floor has 3 square panels to eaves and straight braces; vertical struts between tie beam and collar continue line of studs below. C19 casements. Rear. 2 storey hall range recessed between 2 storey gabled wings. Hall range. C18 brick to ground floor mid-C19 to first floor. Half-glazed door to left with segmental head; casement with segmental head to ground floor right, central first floor casement with returned hood mould. Left hand wing. Early Cl9 brickwork. Right hand wing. 2 phases of brickwork, the lower C18, the upper probably C19. Interior. In the hall range a mid-C17 stair- case retaining some splat balusters with elongated perforations. Contem- porary first floor with chamfered and stopped cross beam and joists. The crosswings have chamfered and stopped spine beams and joists. V.C.H. vol. XX (1984) p.104.
