- II
Farmhouse. Probably C17 origins, remodelled early C19. Whitewashed, partly rendered, partly plastered cob. Scantle slate roof with gabled ends, 1 stone chimney, others brick. Original plan single depth, C19 remodelling formed double depth plan by addition of 2 rooms and stair gallery. Brick in roof line and plane of front suggests rebuilding at right end. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front righthand slightly advanced with off-centre C20 front door under slate canopy, further entrance at front left. Horned sash 6 panes above 6 panes to left of front door, 6-pane horned sash to right of front door. First floor windows : left, horned timber sash 8 panes above 8 panes; above porch, small horned timber sash 6 panes above 6 panes; right, 6 pane horned sash. The present rear of the house was the early symmetrical C19 front and has a timber cornice decorated with individual beads instead of modillions. Central entrance door has 6 coffered panels in elliptically arched doorway. Ground floor windows tripartite, timber sashes 6 panes above 6 panes with flanking lights, each of 2 above 2 panes. 3 first floor hornless timber sashes 8 panes above 8. C20 inserted bathroom window to right of centre. Interior: Present front door leads into stair hall. Ground floor room to left of stair hall has large fireplace with granite jambs and lintel and cloam oven. Rear left room has slate floor. Stair gallery to rear has early C19 decorated plaster ceiling and stick balusters to gallery front. Roof timbers complex, early C19 roof intact.
