2. Listed for both architectural and historical reasons. Late C18 or early Cl9. 2 storeys. 3 windows facing south-west, 2 windows, facing south-east. Faced with flints with red brick window dressings, quoins and stringcourse. Parapet of flints on south-west front with 2 horizontal courses of bricks along the top of it. Eaves cornice on the south-east front. Hipped slate roof. Trellised wooden porch at the head of 5 steps. The house was the home of George Meredith from 1889 until 1909, and he died there on 18 May 1909. (Illustrated (Plate 20) in "Old English Houses" by Hugh Braun).
