II
Pair of Lodge Cottages; c.1900, with C16 core. 1 1/2 storeys and attics. Timber-framed and pebble-dashed, boarding in upper part of gables. Thatched roof with projecting verges on extended wall-plates and purlins. Central axial chimney of red brick set diagonally with pilasters in the Kentish Elizabethan style. Casements with leaded hexagonal and diamond panes. Boarded and battened entrance doors. A 2-storey thatched gabled entrance porch to each cottage, dominating the front elevation; the lower storey open on timber posts with arched openings on each side with carved pendants in the Elizabethan style; an oriel window above the entrance, the gable above cantilevered on brackets, and with arch-braced collars. The exposed 1st floor structure is C16; a C16 house heavily restored and converted to cottages c.1900 for the Plumton Hall Estate.
